Bread and croissants…

You will find that Colombian bakeries have this tendency to bake bread and croissants with fillings. These could be ham, cheese, ham AND cheese, bocadillo (guava jelly), or as I discovered the other day, grape and peanuts… As for croissants, I’ve only found one place that sells decent croissants without the obligatory bocadillo/arequipe (caramel)/ham and cheese filling. This is a small kiosk in the Candelaria district in carrera 3 with calle 12b. It’s run by a Swiss expat, and they truly are the best croissants I’ve tasted in Colombia. Good bread is tricky to find – I would look in Carulla supermarket (the ‘Waitrose’ of Colombia – Brits will know what I’m talking about!), there is usually a decent selection in there.
